Considerations in Putting Up a Business

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

Creating a business is a great way to earn more income and to be a step closer to your dream of being financially free. Setting up a business has its risks that’s why it’s important to practice due diligence before plunging in any business endeavors. Like in any endeavor, a business is something that one should be able to do under any circumstances and should have motivation and the discipline to continue. This article is written to equip the readers on how to keep motivated in your business.

I believe that the primary thing a person should consider in setting up a business is keeping in tune with his inner self. Having knowledge of his core desire will lead a person to create the business that is best suitable for him. I believe that in order to be motivated is to do something that you really, really, really love to do. There is a saying that goes: “Do something that you love and you will never have to work a single day in your life.” It is true especially for business, set-up a business that touches your inner desires and core beliefs and it will most likely be a success .

Why is it a factor that is so important in setting up your own business? Well, it is for the reason that your soul is nourished because the business is something that you really, really wanted to do and not just a “superficial” want. This is very important as it will determine your willingness and consistency in tweaking and updating your business model every now and then.

Motivation is truly important in setting up a business, it will determine your willingness to go on even if you’re too lazy or juts want to lie on your couch the whole day. It will determine your willingness to get out of your comfort zone to market your product. It will determine your willingness to go on even if customers don’t come back or suppliers cheated on you. Motivation will determine your success in your business.

Always keep this tip in mind: find your niche, find your passion and the right business will come to you that will surely make you rich and prosperous.

What’s in a Consumer’s Mind During Trade Shows

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

As a buyer I always see to it that I am deeply satisfied with every purchase. I always go to craft fairs where I can find unique and useful things for my own use. I also love giving away such items as presents and gifts to my friends, relatives and colleagues. They always admire these unique finds that I sourced out from craft fairs. It is very ideal to give away because its not pricey thus, would not make a huge indent on my pocket.

As a consumer I have guidelines on how I come up with my purchase. There are wide options to choose from and it can be a bit confusing and overwhelming at first. Before going out, I already have in mind the things that I need to buy in order to save time and effort. Before coming to craft fairs I already have a detailed plan on what to buy and what not to buy.

Firstly, I look for quality products. For me, quality means a reasonable price tag for a product. I really dont mind spending more on an item which I deemed has the better or the best quality among its contemporaries.

Next factor I look for is the attitude of the seller or the merchant. I am one of the people who vouch that a sellers attitude is equally important with the product that she sells. Take a look at this example. If two products are balanced and have the same characteristics in terms of price and quality, one would choose to buy from someone she sees as a friend. That is the reason why a good relationship with your buyers is extremely important in the world of selling.

Now that some of these facts are laid out for us to know, as a business person it is always better to keep them in mind to be able to have a successful crafting business.

They attend classes, read books, and go to seminars where experts in the field of finance give tips that are sure and proven ways towards financial freedom. This can be gained through continuous immersion of financial related books, seminars and classes.

One example of the things that are being described in these books is that the employee should learn how to have an employer mindset. It states that people could never acquire financial freedom in case they remain as employees forever. They should stop working for money and have money work for them. They should learn how to invest their money on funds or areas where they can see it grow without them touching it.

Experts in these fields say that a person should learn the basics of owning a business as a first step to gaining financial intelligence. Accounting and simple financial methods that people learn in handling business are the key to learning more about money and thus, having money work for you. Talented and creative people use their inner core talents at their expense. They make crafts and then sell them to their peers, friends, colleagues, relatives, etc. They are people who are able to transform their hobby into a money making opportunity. St. Patrick’s Day Crafts Part I: Shamrock Pins

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

St. Patricks Day is an annual festival being celebrated by countries around the world. What better way to celebrate this festive event by making St. Patricks Day commemorative crafts. This article is to provide you with information on how to make St. Patricks Day crafts that are easy, fun and inexpensive. You may sell these items on St. Patricks Day itself or give it away as gifts or fun memorabilia.

I will teach you now how to make Shamrock pins crafts . We all know that the Shamrock is the national symbol of St. Patricks Day. It is a common knowledge that when you found a piece of shamrock good luck and good things will come your way. Shamrock is the anglicized word from the Irish term seamrg . It is a three-leafed old white clover and is Irelands national symbol.

To make shamrock pins you must first gather the following materials: 3 pieces of small wooden hearts (those used for scrap booking), green acrylic paint, glue, glitters and green chenille stem. Cut off a 3 long of green chenille stem and glue it at the back of the wooden heart. Glue the two wooden hearts at the side of the center heart. Cover with green acrylic paint and let dry before covering with glitters. You may also apply a fresh coat of glazing to give it a shiny look. Finish by gluing a safety pin at the back.

I’m going to give you an interesting tidbit about shamrock: did you know that the four-leafed clover is often mistaken as the shamrock symbol? The four-leafed clover is primarily the Irish symbol for good luck while the three-leafed clover (shamrock) is a Christian symbol for the Holy Trinity. However, nowadays a shamrock is also considered as a symbol for good luck.

Be present at the St. Patricks Day festival in Irish fashion with your shamrock pin pinned on your favorite St. Patricks Day t-shirt. Give some samples of your unique creation to your family and friends and dont forget to wish them good luck!

Little List of Things to-bring

by Ian Kleine

When trying to make a checklist of the things you will need for the fair, always think of the essentials and the things that will be needed for the entire day, for the booth, and for your products as well. Don’t forget the things for personal comfort too, because that will be in essence, what will determine how you will interact with customers during the big day.

For the business operation, make sure to bring these. Your products or merchandise that you will need for the big day, labels and signs that pertain to your product, boxes or bags for purchasing customers, extra price tags should the ones on your product get removed, damaged or is unclear.

You’d also need a complete inventory listings before and after the show, to confirm how much you had sold during the day. String and wrapping paper for the large items, and bags, either paper or plastic for the smaller ones.

You will need to disseminate information to the customers as well, in case they will want to come back for the next day’s affair. Make sure to have large booth signs with clear fonst of what your product’s names are, brochures and flyers could also help. Those who’d be interested to sit down and take their time browsing your items can also do with a catalog. Have business cards printed out and ready the day before, and don’t forget to hand out invitations to your friends.

Don’t forget to bring your schedules too, so in case you’d forget what part of the day this event happens or where this is going to be held. Special order forms can also help, for those who like to buy in bulk. This would be a great help, and a great convenience for both you and them.

Arts and Crafts in Tennessee

by Mara Hernandez-Capili

Mothers Day is fast approaching and husbands and kids are looking for gift ideas to give to the special woman in their lives. There are enormous selections that can be found on shops and retail stores that specialize in womens stuffs and accessories. For budget gifts, look no further as there are several of them in craft fairs and festivals. In craft fairs, people sell goods at very low prices. These goods are mostly home made or hand made crafts that are both cheap and charming. The fact that they are home made and did not use factory resources unlike other stuffs are what make them a cheap commodity.

For crafters, there are a lot of craft ideas that would make mothers appreciate them and be happy. A quick project that is not just quick but also easy to make is potpourri doilies. Moms appreciate them for they are very good pieces of decoration for homes and they are fragrant too. To start making one, first thing is to gather the ingredients.

First is to prepare the materials which are a set of potpourri, a doily (or crochet your own!) and a string of ribbon or raffia. Place the doily on a flat surface, scatter the potpourri towards the center and enclose it by pulling up the sides of the doily. Finish by tying the doily with a ribbon string or raffia. This is ideal as a decoration underneath the void space on stairs, under the doorways or as a decoration in the Christmas tree. The fragrance that oozes out from the potpourri makes this stuff truly fascinating.

Photo Cubes made of Styrofoam are also ideal gifts for Mothers Day and very easy to make. All you have to do is to cut out cubes made of Styrofoam. Add embellishments and art using construction or art paper. Place photo inserts using plastic acetate sheets. These cute photo cubes are great for displaying on office desks for career moms and on top of refrigerators for stay-at-home moms.

Get a glimpse of the nearest craft shows in your neighborhood and scout for ideas to score your Mothers Day gift with.

Selling Wisely 2

by Ian Kleine

Keep with the low profile when you are starting. It isn’t really a good idea to always make a big impression to people around you during craft fairs. Keep your expenses low also, it isn’t a good idea to waste all of your capital in something that you can admit to, is a wild card when it comes to profits.

Try and think of as trying to start from scratch. Keep your expenses low, and try to save as much. That includes renting or borrowing instead of buying, making just enough crafts to try and cover your expenses, or share with a fellow craftsman so you can effectively cut your expenses in half.

Be assertive and effective about the prices of your products. Of course, I myself would give second thoughts to something that would be dirt-cheap. Is the material sub-standard? Could it be an easy thing to do, hence the inexpensive price? Be proud of your product, but not in the sense that people will have a hard time buying it.

Remember, if you have not established a name yet, there would be little who will surely buy from you for the whole part of the fair. Charge your products by how much you spent for the raw materials and for the labor that you have serviced it with. Think first, which one do you prefer, profit, or market?

A minor detail most craft artisans fail to notice is that most visitors and buyers don’t bring much of cash. They bring plastic money, aka credit cards. Bring your machine along so your buyer wouldn’t be inconvenienced with having to go and convert currency just so they can buy from you (and in retrospect, you might lose customers if you don’t offer this convenience). Checks aren’t all that safe nowadays, as strangers plus checks is not really a very good formula to begin with.

Professional Appearance 2

by Ian Kleine

Always be ready and be prepared for your show. Do this so you would not hassle yourself, hassle your help, and hassle others as well. Running around panicking because you were unable to do this or do that would be quite an embarrassment for your part, and would make a lasting bad impression to both the people around you and your customers as well.

The day before, arrange and prepare everything you will need; from literature, booth supplies, your products, your clothes, rations and all those other essential items.

Before the start of the actual show, most fairs already open their doors to registered presenters. Take this time to set your booth up. Time is money (and definitely gold). The time needed for you to set up instead of presenting your product is wasted. Plus, customers certainly do not want to see you still setting up. It is a very messy and cumbersome job, so be prepared and arrive early to set up.

Be considerate and respectful to both your prospective clients and other crafters as well. Socializing and talking to one another will ease out boredom and the monotone of the situation. However, if the crafter has a customer or seems busy at the moment, don’t go out of your way to disturb them. It would make you look like you were harassing them.

Also, when the show has started, don’t start to realize important stuff had gone missing causing you to delay your booth, or worse, ask other people for extra stuff and the like for like.

On selecting your wardrobe, dress neatly and for the situation. You are trying to look like a professional, and darn better, you should be one. If ever suits and formal wear doesn’t apply for you, wear specific, brand-name suits (brand name meaning your own) to further advertising. Have your name in your aprons if you are doing a demo, or at least if you want something casual, do wear a t-shirt with your “company” name.

Mansfield Village Cornbread Festival

by Ian Kleine

The village of Mansfield has been known to celebrate some of the good things of life, like the earlier festival of mushrooms during the last few weeks of the month of April. But this time, during the fall months of September, they celebrate another food classic in a simple festival dedicated to its no-nonsense approach, versatility and timelessness; the simple cornbread. Welcome to the Mansfield Village Cornbread Festival.

The air is very fragrant during the time of the festival’s peak. Autumn leaves add a sweet, earthy scent, the aroma of kettles full of ham and beans, chili, stews and freshly baked cornbread all mix and amble together to create a buffet of scents to the air.

There’s a small parade that will go through downtown that will start and kick off the corn bread festival. The 2006 festival has included the chili cook off and the cornbread bake off, so this means a whole lot more of opportunities for you to show your family recipes. There are lots of bread, pumpkins, squash and all other fall goodies to go by.

There’s also the Annual Mansfield Village Roller RV Rally for those who enjoy the sight of an RV rally (was being redundant there). Camping and lawn seats included for those who reserve early. The Roller Run will give away hundreds of dollars and cash for prizes and trophies. Dana Auction Company also holds a country auction at Hilltop Farm for those interested to take a look.

There are also other things to keep one’s self busy. Village shops open for visitors who like to go shopping. For those who are more in-tuned to nature, you can visit through the village for a scenic route, see a creek, stroll through a bridge, or just peruse all the ruins in the area. It’s a unique experience that only comes at least a few times in your life.

Know your Ballet Barre Exercises

Dancers dressed in tutus or warm-up leggings and leotards stretching at a ballet barre may seem like something of a modern day interpretation of a Degas painting, but the importance of barre work in ballet can’t be emphasized enough. All ballet dancers, whether they want to go on to be prima ballerinas, or are the youngest novice still learning how to tie the ribbons on her ballet slippers, will learn that the barre will be the greatest tool to help a ballet dancer develop the strength, poise and balance that she (or he) will need to create the graceful movements synonymous with ballet dancing.
